Biosecurity & AMR Advisory

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the defining health challenges of our era, and the gap between research evidence and institutional policy remains wide. I advise universities, hospitals, health ministries, and international organisations on antimicrobial resistance, infection control, biosecurity, and molecular diagnostics — translating the science into policy and practice that institutions can actually implement.

My work in this area is grounded in active research and clinical laboratory leadership. I have published on carbapenem resistance, ESBLs, the genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 variants in the Middle East, and the evidence base for national and regional policy interventions against resistance, including work in The Lancet. This combination of bench-level molecular expertise and policy-level perspective is what allows advisory work to move from diagnosis to durable solutions.

Typical engagements include the design of antimicrobial stewardship programmes, infection control policy and its implementation, advisory on molecular diagnostics such as PCR and sequencing, AMR surveillance strategy and genomic profiling, clinical microbiology laboratory quality systems, and support for hospital outbreak investigation and response. Each engagement is scoped to the institution's context, whether that is a single hospital strengthening its stewardship programme or a ministry building a national surveillance strategy.

If your organisation is developing its response to antimicrobial resistance or strengthening its biosecurity and diagnostic capability, I would be glad to discuss how my expertise can support that work.
